1. Position Title: Project Manager, Finance and HR Applications

Location: Shanghai, GroupM China

Overview

The position is responsible for delivering application solutions in business domain areas of Finance and HR operations. This position requires the ability to understand business process and the mind-set of business processes standardization and streamlining. The position requires a strong self-starter who can deliver consistently at a tactical level and be proactive and take initiatives.

Responsibility

Business Analysis:

    • Work proactively with business and project team in defining , shaping and prioritization of business requirements
    • Specification of detailed requirements and solution design to ensure completeness and coherence to meet business requirements and fit with high level design
    • Review / sign off of testing strategies, plans, criteria and results to ensure user acceptance by testing validation, and delivery to business requirement and user satisfaction
    • Supporting existing applications, train end-users on new functionality, and provide written documentation

Project Management:

  • Prepare project management deliverables, to ensure adherence to Company standards and methodologies
  • Perform regular communication of status to all team members and stakeholders
  • Monitor and control progress throughout all phases of a project
  • Work with development team to deliver applications
  • Manage and ensure resolution of all issues, including influencing business through decision making processes where necessary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline
  • 3 – 5 years relevant experience in financial accounting system or HR system deployment and supporting
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycles and strong experience of initial stages of lifecycles
  • Experience in defining/refining business requirements on complex development projects
  • Experience understanding business process and applying this knowledge to use cases, requirement specifications, process flows, data models, test cases, etc.
  • Strong understanding of technology as it relates to facilitating systems design
  • Experience on handling projects with formal project management methodology
  • Highly motivated individual who enjoys working on complex projects
  • Strong partnering and user relationship skills
  • Strong communication skills (both English and Chinese), verbal, written and active listening
  • Experience in the media or advertising industries is a plus
  • Experience implementing and supporting Microsoft AX or PeopleSoft is a plus

2. Position Title: Development Manager, GroupM China

Location: Shanghai

Primary Objectives

The main objectives of the DevelopmentManager, GroupM are:

  • Technical Excellence – have the acumen and motivation to continuously learn, embrace, and seek out technical challenges that increase his/her skills and those on the team, and to improve the overall work product
  • Leadership – guiding direct reports and his/her team through an orientation process, coaching employees on their job performance, giving feedback, and suggesting corrective action as appropriate
  • Strategic Direction – ask effective questions, apply what they learn across domains, understand broad business and competitive issues, and relate details to broader contexts.
  • Project Management – create accurate and effective schedules and deliverables; manage risks and dependencies, make timely decisions, and identify and develop relevant core metrics for tracking the project

Position Environment

This is a full time position (40 hours per week) where the incumbent is expected to be in the GroupM office between the hours of 9:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.

The developmentManager will work closely with members of the China applications team, the RDC development team and GDC development team.  They may also be required to liaise with external technical solution providers.

Key Accountabilities

Technical Excellence:

  • Led code reviews that reinforced team standards and improved the coding and design skills of others
  • Led architectural and design reviews for the feature areas; the reviews surfaced key issues, improved quality, and enabled faster completion of milestones
  • Made sure that best practices for architecture, design, and development (for example, simplicity and correctness) were in place for the feature areas before coding started
  • Observed the mistakes of others and proactively identified processes or mechanisms for avoiding the same mistakes in the future
  • Specified dependencies and risks for the feature areas in advance and ensured that they had appropriate mitigation, which eliminated surprises during the project and on-time delivery against milestones
  • Advocated team coding standards, ensured that feature areas complied with them, and followed up with individuals and teams when standards were not met
  • Wrote exemplary code; developed coding practices that were widely viewed as the best practice for the group
  • Wrote unit tests for the feature areas that effectively exercised the code, surfaced bugs or design issues, and integrated well with those used by Test, in accordance with group practices
  • Made full use of the automatable system, adapting or enhancing the system as needed, to make implementation and testing of the feature areas efficient, which led to other teams using the adaptations and enhancements

Leadership:

  • Clearly defined team roles and responsibilities, and optimized resources to address team commitments
  • Was accountable for team leadership and demonstrated effective leadership, as illustrated by staff feedback and survey results
  • Ensured that team members defined their commitments, aligned them to the group’s goal, and tracked their progress, which resulted in high team motivation and efficient strategy implementation
  • Clearly communicated and enforced performance standards through current, measurable commitments
  • Provided regular, ongoing feedback that helped team members improve their own performance, and proactively addressed poor performance
  • Negotiated with senior management for realistic team assignments or project goals, after exhausting process and content property, which resulted in better alignment among content properties, business strategy, and team commitments
  • Achieved good results through managed risk taking, and demonstrated an understanding of the business and the risks associated with making decisions and with not making decisions
  • Made decisions in a timely manner, took responsibility for his/her decisions, and kept the best interests of GroupM in mind when making decisions
  • Demonstrated a commitment to diversity of work styles, thinking, and backgrounds in the way that he/she recruited, hired, mentored, coached, communicated, and managed conflicts

Strategic Direction:

  • Designed robust and scalable feature areas that enabled the customer/partner scenarios and were clearly described
  • Created designs for the feature areas that fully incorporated basic concepts such as diagnosability, testability, maintainability, discoverability, and performance, and that were extensible to other feature areas
  • Identified design issues in the feature areas that caused multiple bugs, and recommended and implemented design changes that corrected the issue(s)
  • Designed and implemented reusable code for feature areas and/or reused others’ code as appropriate; optimized his/her designs and code for performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Created designs for feature areas that took into consideration the entire product life cycle, so that the feature areas could be efficiently maintained
  • Made appropriate design and architectural compromises between functionality, performance, dependency, quality, and reliability for the feature areas; the compromises ensured that the product release vision and pillars were met
  • Anticipated the enhancement needs of feature areas and incorporated them into designs
  • Provided feedback on product/technology vision and strategy, enabling owners and senior management to improve upon them
  • Choose the right technology (for example, language or compiler) and target domain (for example, for n-tier architectures), with no unnecessary abstraction layers, to implement the feature areas, which resulted in high-quality, stable, efficient, and secure code

Project Management:

  • Created a schedule for the feature areas that took all dependencies into account, was on target for each milestone, and resulted in no project delays
  • Provided team with a clear and transparent schedule of commitments necessary to meet project goals; updated the schedule as appropriate to capture progress and highlight problems areas
  • Created schedules that accurately and realistically reflected delivery of features and contained sufficient buffering to account for anticipated defects, risks, and dependencies
  • Monitored a project and balanced competing priorities, which resulted in on-time delivery against milestones
  • Communicated status of projects to management, which resulted in management making more informed decisions and compromises
  • Put metrics in place for feature areas and projects, which improved product and project efficiency, time to market, and quality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline
  • Formal qualifications in development management or Leadership will be highly regarded
  • Project Management certification will be highly regarded

Experience and Knowledge

The following experience and knowledge is required to perform the duties of the Media Systems Manager, China:

  • At least 7years experience in a development management role
  • In depth knowledge of project development methodologies
  • At least 5years experience working with the Microsoft .NET Framework with proficiency in v3.5 or above
  • At least 5 years experience working with Microsoft SQL Server with proficiency in 2008 or above

The following experience and knowledge is desirable:

  • Experience in a business analysis role
  • Experience with organisational change management
  • Detailed knowledge of agile or iterative development methodologies

Skills

The following skills are required to perform the duties of the Development Manager, China:

  • Proficiency in C#
  • Proficiency in VB6
  • Proficiency in SQL
  • Proficiency using SSIS
    • Strong planning, problem solving and decision making skills
